Training @ MP

Just ran an awesome workout yesterday. 9+ miles (15km) @ marathon pace + 5 miles of WU/CD. It has been 6 years since I last time did something this organized training. The workout was totally in my control even if the kebab roll (kebab ingredient rolled inside pizza, ) was willing and able to mess the whole thing up. In the evening my legs started to hurt like hell but in a good way. This morning's run with baby jogger was painful and slow.

Memo to me: never ever eat a kebab roll 120 minutes before your tempo run.

In Tallinn

Due to the additional load on Monday and Tuesday, I skipped yesterday's run. But so did Manu who I met at yesterday's plenary session. Tomorrow we ran 7.5 miles ez and got lost only a little. Then I ate and ate some more. Next up gala dinner.

On Saturday things are back to normal. 100 miles week... here I come? No, 60-70 miles is the next level.

Out-of-shape dude commented: "Achilles is getting better"

Without a clear target it's a task to motive yourself. Although I'm happy with the current steady state of alternating days of skiing and running I'm soon ready for more (this week I've run 10 miles and skied about 13 miles). Luckily, the recovery is still in progress so I have to keep myself patient for couple weeks. And the best thing is that the operated achilles is silent and co-operative. Well, yesterday after running and walking a bit it began aching, but a little dose of ice eased that pain.

This far I can confess that I'm totally out of shape. The tiny amount of xc skiing hasn't helped me much and the last decent bike ride is from early September. Running feels so heavy now but to find a reason for that doesn't require a degree in rocket science: After returning from the US I weighed 140 and now the scale shows almost 150. That sucks, but eating is too fun!

Tomorrow I'll have to review the year 2010. I have a gut feeling that it wasn't the best athletic year of my life.

Nutrition overload

Two easy days - sometimes a must. I have been hurting a lot since Tuesday's physical insult (race pace tempos + adjusted Indiana elite core workout). This morning I picked up the pieces and shortly thereafter I found myself watching the indoor track. Okay, time for some tempo repeats. The above being said, today tempo pace pretty much sucked, but I finished 3x2000m'2min (6.49, 6.55, 6.43). Then I was ready for some excellent hamburger buffet at the Kerttu with sweetie and couple work colleagues.

In addition, today was the first not-below-freezing day in 2.5 months. Even if roads are now melting into dangerous and annoying icy layer of depressive mass, it feels that Spring is just around the corner. Birds are already singing. And I'm just flippin' the bird at the weather. What a waste...

And good luck for everyone racing the Club Challenge tomorrow. Even if I'm on the HCS's side, Bmore's looks tough.

Pants on the Ground

Yeah. I see the Sun. In your face winter! Not really, because winter will keep us in cold (currently it's 4F) for couple more weeks (6-7 if lucky). So I'm still looking like a fool running out there. Only if I would have Sellish handlebars. They would be awesome and icy - maybe warm too.

Monday was easy (=passive rest = I did nothing). Yesterday I concentrated on eating due to a research seminar and today I will continue this ez week with a cool set of doubles.
